A friendly reminder that the price of Hulu is going up on October 8

Hulu’s prices increase from Friday, October 8 for its monthly and annual subscription levels.

It was initially reported in September that Hulu’s monthly cost would increase from $ 1 per month or $ 10 per year (ad-supported) to $ 7 per month (ad-supported), $ 13 per month (ad-free) ) and $ 70 per year, respectively. Prices for Hulu’s basic monthly ad-free subscriptions increase by $ 1, but none of its live TV levels will be affected. (These plans had a price hike late last year.)

In a recent email to subscribers, Hulu wrote that the price increase “will be reflected in your first billing cycle starting October 8”. Users will be charged the new price unless they cancel their subscription by Friday.

Hulu said subscribers through a discount or promotional offer would not be affected by the price increase. In addition, the the company said in September that those who subscribe to Hulu through the Disney Bundle will also not be affected.

While regular price hikes have become a predictable downside of streaming wars, Hulu’s also introduced a handful of changes to its service this year ahead of the hike. The NFL network and RedZone were added to Hulu’s live TV service in July, and its live TV service in April also added ViacomCBS-owned channels including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and MTV. Finally, it recently announced support for HDR on some – but not all – of its originals.
