A Game Trials feature has been added to PlayStation 5, but there is a downside

A new game trial feature is now available on PlayStation 5, and as you’ve probably understood, it offers the ability to try out games before you buy them.

With the new feature, it looks like Sony is more or less testing the waters so to speak because right now there are only two games available: Death Stranding Director’s Cut and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

The Death Stranding Director’s Cut trial has six hours of gameplay, and you can play Sackboy: A Big Adventure for five hours.

All progress, save data, and trial trophies will transfer to the full game if you decide to purchase the games. You have until midnight October 28, UK time to download the trial versions, when they will be phased out (thanks, Push Square).

While this all sounds good, there is only one problem: the trial period begins as soon as you press the download button instead of when you load the trial for the first time.

As Eurogamer notes, this could be a problem for people with less than stellar internet speeds. In other words, if it takes you a few hours to download Death Stranding, you will only have four hours to try out the game instead of all six.

But, there is a workaround if you want to play the trial without running out of content due to download times.

According to reddit user jsnals, before you initially download the trial version, you need to create an account with the same region as your primary account and then click the trial download button for that new account. Then after downloading, go to your main account and click on the trial download option. As you’ve already downloaded it to your PS5 using the new account, you won’t need to download the trial version again to be able to play it.

The feature also appears to be only available in the UK at the moment. Hopefully the feature will roll out to other regions soon, and Sony will change it where the trial doesn’t start as soon as you hit the download button.
