A teenage girl who lost a part of her leg and sustained serious hand injuries after a shark attack on a North Carolina beach was released from the jaw of the fish when her father jumped into the fray and was started to hit the terror with sharp teeth.
The incident occurred around 12:20 pm. at Fort Macon State Park, located near Atlantic Beach.
"Suddenly everyone started shouting, and I looked to my left and they rushed to that little girl, she looked small, but she's 17," he said. at WCTI Lacy Whorton. "And it looked like she was crawling on the beach and the officials were running towards her, that whistles were ringing and everyone was screaming and they quickly got everyone out of the water."

The Atlantic Beach Fire Department told WCTI-TV that the 17-year-old girl had "serious injuries" to her leg and hands, including "deep lacerations in her leg, pelvic and hands ". Deputy Fire Chief Casey Arthur told the TV channel that the incident was "pretty rare" and that they did not live often.
"Especially when you talk about a shark bite, these are rather rare," he told WCTI.
The girl was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where she was treated for her injuries. The hospital identified her as 17-year-old Paige Winter from New Bern.
"She is in good condition and is receiving excellent care," said the hospital in a statement to WCTI. "His family expresses appreciation for the first responders, the beach people who helped and his heroic father who saved his life."
Winter's grandmother, Janet Winter, wrote on Facebook that the 17-year-old was in surgery and that he was now going to lose one leg above the knee and fingers.
"Thank God, our son was with her, he said that he had hit the shark in the face five times before letting him go," she said Sunday night.

Winter added that his granddaughter "might need a hand transplant in the future".
"Please, keep her in your prayers," she said.
The hospital officials said that despite her injuries, Paige remained "an unshakeable advocate for marine life and animals living in the water."
"She wants people to continue to respect sharks in their environment and their safety," said a hospital statement.

Park Ranger Paul Terry told WRAL that the water was cloudy at the time of the incident and that no one was currently allowed to enter the water at Fort Macon. Officials do not yet know what type of shark was involved and are waiting for additional information from marine scientists and biologists.
Last year, a 14-year-old surfer was bitten by a shark in Atlantic Beach, according to WRAL.
The attack in North Carolina took place a week after the death of a 65-year-old California man who died as a result of a shark attack while swimming off the coast of Maui.
