A great-grandmother with CBD oil arrested at Disney World

Disney World is perhaps the most magical place on Earth, but it has turned into a legal nightmare for a great-grandmother with arthritis.

A 69-year-old woman was arrested at a Disney World checkpoint when a member of Orange County found CBD oil in her purse. She then spent 12 hours behind bars before being released with a $ 2,000 bail.

Hester Jordan Burkhalter, a great-grandmother from North Carolina, began using CBD oil for his arthritis after his doctor recommended it, reported Fox 35 in Orlando. She even had a note from the health professional in her bag at the time of her arrest, but that did not matter.

Burkhalter told Fox 35 that she had been planning her trip for two years. "I have arthritis in my legs, arms, and shoulder," she said. "I use (CBD oil) to relieve pain because it helps." However, when she was stopped by security outside the Magic Kingdom, she was arrested. "I've never had a single ticket for speeding in my life."

Although it is sold in stores across the state, CBD oil remains technically illegal in the state of Florida (unless the user has a prescription). This created a confusing situation in the Sunshine State.

Jennifer Synnamon, a Florida lawyer, told Fox 35: "A small drop of oil, along with the CBD, is a crime. During this time, you can have up to 19.9 grams of marijuana leaves, which constitutes a first degree offense. "
While the Orange County Sheriff's Office told Fox 35 that his deputy was only following the law, the charges against Burkhalter were eventually dropped.
