A suspect described as "a lone wolf" was arrested on Thursday in connection with a project to launch explosives at people in Times Square, famous in the neighborhood of New York, according to reported information.
The unidentified suspect was arrested shortly after investigators from the FBI's anti-terrorism task force learned that he was investigating the purchase of grenades, the New York Daily News reported.
No information was disclosed on the suspect's age, nationality or place of residence, but he was scheduled to appear in Brooklyn court on Friday, WCBS-TV reported in New York.

Times Square is covered with illuminated billboards as tourists flock to the streets.
Authorities do not believe the suspect is linked to a larger attack on the city, the channel reported.
According to the Daily News, the joint task force includes FBI staff and the New York Police Department.
Times Square, a shopping and entertainment district in the heart of Manhattan, which attracts a significant number of visitors each year, has often been associated with terrorism-related arrests.

2016: A Uber driver in Brooklyn is arrested and charged with attempting to join ISIS and planning an attack on Times Square similar to that which occurred earlier in the year in Nice, France, in which a truck had been driven into a crowd.
2010: A car bomb attack is thwarted when the bomb fails to explode and a street-piercing salesman alerts the authorities. A few months later, a suspect, who claimed to be a supporter of Osama bin Laden, was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the case.
2008: A US military recruiting station is bombed but the case remains unsolved. Nobody was injured in the blast, which occurs early in the morning.
