The House's Intelligence Committee voted Monday night for the transcripts of Michael Cohen's closed-door testimony in front of the panel in February and March.
"The public must judge by itself both today's evidence and Cohen's testimony about Trump, his troubling relationship with Russia, and Trump's and his family's efforts to conceal their relationship and their possible trade agreements, "the House Intelligence Committee. President Adam Schiff, D-Calif., Said in a statement. "The public also deserves to be able to judge Cohen's credibility, including by reviewing some of the evidence that he has provided."
The vote to make the transcripts public had a margin of 12-7.
The current member, the representative Devin Nunes, R-Calif., Would have left the meeting and m said to reporters: "You are sad, sad, sad."
Cohen, a former personal attorney for President Trump, told the committee that Trump's lawyer, Jay Sekulow, had ordered him to lie to lawmakers in 2017 about the end of negotiations for the establishment of Trump tower in Moscow. Cohen said that Sekulow had ordered him to tell lawmakers in 2017 that discussions on the project had ended on January 31, 2016, before the Feb. 1 caucuses in Iowa. Cohen then admitted that the negotiations lasted until June 2016.
Sekulow's legal team attacked Cohen's credibility, claiming he had a long history of deception. "Whether this committee or another committee relies on Michael Cohen's word for any reason – let alone trying to penetrate the solicitor-client privilege and discover the confidential communications of four respected lawyers – challenges the logic, the well established right and common sense, "they said.
Cohen pleaded guilty in November to "deliberately and willfully" making "a materially false, fictitious and fraudulent statement and representation" before House and Senate intelligence panels on a Trump tower in Moscow. He is currently serving a three-year prison term for lying to Congress, violating election campaign funding and being the victim of tax and banking fraud.
