Authorities in North Carolina have stated that a home invasion suspect deterred by an 11-year-old child with a machete had left the hospital and was on the run.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office announced Saturday that Jataveon Dashawn Hall, 19, had left the hospital where he was being treated Friday for head injuries. He faces charges of breaking and entering and assault. He was free on Saturday night.

The authorities claim that he was one of the intruders who entered the house on Friday but were expelled when the boy took blood with a machete.

The sheriff's office says that he came to the hospital for treatment, but a nurse eventually found his empty hospital bed. The video surveillance showed him leaving.

According to UNC Health Care, the suspect was not under surveillance during his hospitalization.
