AMES, Iowa – A homeless accused of murdering a former golfer from Iowa State University pleaded guilty to first degree murder.
The Des Moines Register indicates that 22-year-old Collin Richards pleaded his case at a hearing on Friday. On August 23, Richards had already pleaded not guilty. He was to be tried in September.
Police said Richards had mortally stabbed 22-year-old Celia Barquín Arozamena last September while she was playing a ride on public land in Ames, near the university campus, and that She was left in a pond. Investigators say Richards lived in a small homeless camp in the woods near the public course.
Barquín Arozamena was a high level golfer in Spain when she was a teenager and she came to the state of Iowa to pursue her career.
