The lawyer of a North Carolina teenager, accused of the mysterious death by strangling his father, said that his client was innocent.

According to news agencies, Allyn Sharp told a judge, at a hearing on Monday, that Alexander Bishop, 16, had not killed his father, well-known real estate developer Bill Bishop.

Alexander Bishop, charged with murder on Friday, was released on bail on Monday.

Last April, Alexander Bishop called the authorities to tell him that he had found his father unable to meet their home in Durham, a dog leash around his neck and the other end still attached to the dog. The father died later in the hospital.

The state medical examiner's office ruled that the father had died as a result of a strangling homicide.
