A Lehigh Valley electrician who became angry with a supervisor attacked his co-workers in the Florida home they shared on a temporary work project, killing two on Saturday and injuring a third who was not to survive, said declared a sheriff.
Electrician Shun Runyon and his colleagues lived in Davenport while temporarily working in a supermarket for a Pennsylvania power company, J & B Electric. Ruynon, 39, whose court records say he is from the Nazareth area in Northampton County, argued with his supervisor on Friday, beating the man and fleeing the construction site, the county sheriff said of Polk, Grady Judd, at a press conference.
Runyon returned to the house where he and seven co-workers and their families lived and began attacking them with a knife and baseball bat, beating a man to death while he slept, Judd said.
A second victim was found dead on the porch and a third victim was beaten so badly that she was hospitalized in extremely critical condition and was “not expected to survive,” said the sheriff.
Runyon chased a fourth victim down the street and hit him with the bat. Another man escaped unscathed with his wife and 7-year-old daughter, Judd said.
Davenport is a community located approximately 55 kilometers southwest of Orlando, in central Florida.
Runyon fled the house, leaving a bloody trail that eventually cooled, prompting a full-scale manhunt involving dozens of MPs, K-9 units, drones and a helicopter, authorities said.
He showed up hours later at the home of a Lake Wales couple, wearing bloody clothes and telling them he had been raped, according to the sheriff. Judd said the man threw away his bloody clothes at the house as they urged him to go to hospital where he was later taken into custody.
The sheriff said charges would be laid against Runyon, who was not injured. The identity of the victims was not immediately disclosed.
“He knew all these victims. We have no idea what made him so outraged that over 24 hours later he would come back and attempt to kill each of them, ”Judd said.
Runyon also has a violent criminal history, the sheriff said, including a violent arrest for strangulation in Pennsylvania. A search of court records indicates that Runyon was charged with strangulation in Nazareth in May. According to court records, he posted bail with a court hearing scheduled for October 14. Court records in that case indicated that Runyon had an address in Nazareth.
