Georgia has now landed 5-star quarterbacks in consecutive recruiting classes. The Bulldogs signed Brock Vandagriff in the 2021 recruiting class. Kirby Smart and Todd Monken followed that up by securing a signing from 2022 5-star quarterback Gunner Stockton on Thursday.
The two quarterbacks have crossed paths before, as Vandagriff’s Prince Avenue Chrisitan Academy faced Stockton’s Rabun County team in September 2020.
The competition was televised nationally, giving many their first exposure to the two talented quarterbacks. But those who follow DawgNation have long known what the two talented quarterbacks are capable of.
Scroll through the gallery below to see how Stockton and Vandagriff have grown over the years to become Georgia’s quarterback.
Stockton’s side came away with a 38-31 victory over Vandagriff and Prince Avenue tonight in September, but both quarterbacks showed why they are much-touted prospects. Vandagriff’s side fell behind 31-7 at the start, as Stockton had little trouble getting through the Prince Avenue defense. After the game, Vandagriff’s coach and father Greg compared Stockton to Justin Fields.
But Vandagriff brought his side back to tie the game at 31. Stockton made a final touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give his team the victory.
It would be the last time in all season that Vandagriff would lose this season, as he led his team to a state title.
After the match, Stockton highly appreciated Vandagriff’s performance.
These two will likely fight to be the Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback once Stockton hits campus. It could happen as early as the 2022 season, as JT Daniels looks set to leave for the NFL by then. Stockton will register early in Georgia, just like Vandagriff did.
It should be a fascinating couple of seasons with these two on the Athens campus.
