A young hiker safely returned to his family after wandering for five days in Montana's wilderness.
Kaden Laga, 25, has returned home to find his wife Arden, pregnant with the couple's first child, after surviving berries and insects and drinking water in a stream since August 12, according to Fox 13 .
Laga and his family were out riding last week when one of the group's horses became lame. Laga volunteered to walk and traveled far in front of the group, trying to reach the trailhead.
Laga took a bad turn and lost his bearings, which led to a five-day manhunt. The stray hiker spent his days searching for and finding his way back to civilization and his nights struggling to stay warm.
On his first night alone, he was wet and so cold that he thought he would die of cold before morning.
"I wrote a little text in case they found my body cold," he said. "I just said," In case I do not come out of here, I love you. "I loved my life with you and I'm so sorry for t & # 39; to have allowed to be a single mother. "
Helicopters looking for Laga flew over at one point but did not see it. He resolved to find a way himself. After days of searching, Laga found a trail and followed a light that was left on a campsite. He finally entered the camp on Friday morning at 1 pm
The rescuers took Laga off the mountain and into his family on Friday afternoon.
"I really hope that the takeaway is not that I've done this amazing thing." I was very talented, blessed, protected, a lot of things went wrong. things went wrong, "said Laga Sunday.
