A mother from Louisiana faces charges related to a hand-to-hand fight – but it is unclear whether she was present at the fight, officials said.

Maegan Adkins-Barras, 32, was arrested on Wednesday for sharing a viral video showing a fight between two students at Acadiana High School in Lafayette, Scott's police department said.

The mother confessed to the authorities that the video came from her son's mobile phone. After receiving the video, she posted the clip on social media, where he was "shared several times," according to the police.

The video showed a student who punched another boy and hit his head on a concrete bench before collapsing on the floor. The altercation led the miner to the hospital, officials said.

Police say that Adkins-Barras may not have punched, but that she had the responsibility to report the crime.

"Parents who receive information regarding criminal activities on campus are asked to contact the local police department or school administration," police said Wednesday. "Displaying videos and photos of illegal activities on social media is illegal, which is against the law in Louisiana."
