A Macbeth movie from Joel Coen, Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand – / Movie

Macbeth movie

Joel Coen, half of the Coen brothers, will go solo to bring a new version of William Shakespeare Macbeth on the big screen. It's pretty exciting in itself, but it's better. Denzel Washington is in talks to play Macbeth and frequent Coen collaborator (and wife of Joel Coen) Frances McDormand will also be performed by Lady Macbeth. Super independent studio A24 will distribute.

Deadline announces Joel Coen will lead Macbeth with Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. Curiously, Ethan Coen is not mentioned anywhere in the story, suggesting that he is not involved at all. The Coens almost always work together and made all their movies in pairs (although Joel was credited until The ladykilers. The variety confirms that it will be Joel's first feature film without Ethan. I am not sure of the reasoning behind all this. Maybe Ethan is busy or not interested. I just hope we have not seen the last of the Coen brothers as directors duo.

Beyond that, I am incredibly pumped about it. Although there have been many adaptations of Macbethincluding Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in 2015, it is too good to ignore Shakespeare, with Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand, in the lead role played by Coen.

Lord Macbeth, a Scottish power-hungry, and his intriguing wife, Lady Macbeth, plotted in Shakespeare's classic play to seize the crown and take control of Scotland, accumulating a number of deaths along the route. In addition to the film of 2015, the story was adapted to the projection by Orson Welles in 1948 and Roman Polanski in 1971 (the adaptation of Polanski is what I prefer in this film).

We do not know yet what will be Coen's position on the material. It is difficult to imagine him making a right and proper adaptation of Shakespeare's text to the period. Therefore, I would not be surprised if he changes the scenery and the story one way or another. According to Variety, "Coen will realize from his own original script", which suggests that the filmmaker adds his own voice to the film.

Coen, who recently directed the Netflix Western The Scruggs Buster Ballad with his brother, hope to shoot Macbeth before the end of the year, with the production of Scott Rudin and the distribution by the independent studio preferred by all. This will occupy Washington, because he is about to start shooting the thriller Little thingsthen live Jordan for Jordanwith Michael B. Jordan. McDormand, meanwhile, will provide the voice of God in the next Amazon adaptation of Good omens.
