A suspect was arrested after a five-year-old boy was thrown from the third floor of the Mall of America Mall in Minnesota.

Police rushed to the scene of the accident in Bloomington after witnesses called, reporting that a woman was screaming that her child had been thrown on a balcony around 10 am , local hour.

A man told the New York Daily News that he had seen immediately after the incident and that the child was lying "motionless … in a pool of blood."

At a press conference outside the mall, Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said the authorities had arrested a 24-year-old man who they said had thrown away or pushed the boy and that he seemed to have no connection with him or his mother.

"Our officers first responded and brought first aid to the child with other witnesses and bystanders," said Potts. "The child suffered serious injuries."

The boy was taken to Minnesota Children's Hospital in Minneapolis with his mother, but his condition is not known yet.
