A man arrested for trying to cross the fence of the White House and assaulting a police officer, according to the secret service

Secret Service arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a police officer and attempted to jump over the fence outside the White House on Friday night.

The incident occurred shortly after 9 pm on the northwest side of the Treasury Building on Pennsylvania Avenue, according to the US secret service. The person was quickly arrested.

"The subject was immediately apprehended by secret service personnel and detained," a spokesman for the secret services said in a statement.

The man is accused of assaulting a police officer and illegally entering, according to the secret services.

The secret services said that there was "no impact on the White House's security operations."

The last person arrested for violating the perimeter of the White House dates back to November 2017. This person, identified by the name of Victor Merswin, 24, was also immediately arrested.

Last week, the White House announced that it was lifting the fence to further prevent people from trying to jump on the property.

The height is more than doubled – from 6 feet 6 inches to 13 feet 13 inches – as part of a $ 64 million construction project.

In 2017, three people tried to cross the fence at the White House, the highest number since 2014.
