Tristan Scott Wix, 25, was arrested on Friday at a Winn-Dixie car park in Daytona Beach Shores, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Volusia County Sheriff Michael Chitwood told CNN on Sunday that Wix had sent the texts to his ex-girlfriend, who had shown the messages to the authorities.

"When you look at that kid's background, he's the profile of a shooter," Chitwood said. "He lost his job, he lost his girlfriend, he is depressed, he has ammunition and he wants to be recognized for being the most prolific killer in American history."

Wix, of Daytona Beach, wrote about wanting to open fire on a large crowd, the sheriff's office said. "100 good killings would be good," he wrote in a message, adding that he already had a localization in mind. Until now, Wix has not told investigators where he wanted to proceed, Chitwood said.

"A school is a weak target, I would be more inclined to open fire on a crowd of more than 5 km … I would like to break a world record for the longest confirmed murder of all time" reads in another message, according to the newspaper the sheriff's office.

Wix said that he wanted to die and "have fun doing it".

"Well even if you say to someone, I say I want to do it and think about it is not the same thing as actually doing it lol. I was hoping that somebody. one would come into my life and was worth not doing for the sake of all I'm not crazy, I just want to die and I want to have fun doing it, but I'm the most patient person of world, "writes Wix in another message.

Chitwood said the authorities had found a .22 caliber shotgun and 400 rounds of ammunition in his apartment. Wix had initially told investigators that he did not own any firearms, but that he was fascinated by the mass shootings, the sheriff's office said.

Wix was detained without engagement on Sunday at the Volusia County Branch Prison. On Sunday, it was not possible to determine when he had retained the services of a lawyer.
