A man arrested in front of a NJ school with a rifle and 130 rounds of ammunition, authorities say

Police found the suspect Thursday afternoon on the front seat of his sport utility vehicle at Tamaques Elementary School in Westfield, according to the Union County Attorney's Office. He held a loaded .45 caliber handgun, said Friday in a statement.
Classes had been left for the day, but the preventive lockout came into effect because extracurricular activities were still going on, reported CNN's News12.

The man, later identified as 46-year-old Thomas J. Wilkie of Bear, Delaware, had two rounds of ammunition loaded on him and 130 more cartons in the trunk of his vehicle, announced the prosecutor's office.

Police responded to a report from the New Castle Police Department in Delaware that Wilkie was going to school and could be armed, the statement said.

The suspect was charged with illegal possession of second-degree weapons, possession of fourth-degree hollow-point bullets, and fourth-degree intrusion into a schoolyard, according to the prosecutor's office. from the county of Union.

Wilkie is currently being held at the Union County Jail, pending his first hearing on Wednesday.

According to officials, second degree convictions are usually punished by five to ten years of imprisonment in a state prison. The information about his lawyer was not immediately available.
