TThe man who sent a package containing suspicious white powder to Donald Trump Jr. was sentenced to five years probation, escaping a hefty jail sentence after being accused of threatening the son of the President.
Boston-based judge Nathaniel Gorton sentenced 25-year-old Daniel Frisiello to a five-year jail sentence and a GPS ankle monitor after pleading guilty last October to 13 letters over a period of several years. Six of these letters contained a white powder.
Federal prosecutors in Boston have sought a three-year sentence of imprisonment, but the judge has considered the accused's mental health claims. Frisiello was suffering from delays in brain development and was suffering from autism. These considerations provide "a context for understanding the genesis of his crimes and for judging the degree of his moral blameworthiness," according to the judge.
Frisiello sent a package containing the suspicious white powder to Trump in early 2018. The letter, which was addressed to Trump and his wife Vanessa Trump, contained cornstarch meant to look like anthrax. She was sent to the hospital as a precaution after opening the letter, where the doctors authorized her after a short hospitalization.
A note accompanying the package stated: "You are a hideous and ugly person. I'm surprised your dad lets you talk on TV. You're the idiot of the family, Eric looks smart, "according to federal authorities during the investigation.
"That's why people hate you, so you get what you deserve," the note said.
Frisiello also sent a threatening letter to Senator Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., And to other federal candidates in the country.
