PAHRUMP, NV. (VVNG.com) – The Nye County Sheriff's Office is investigating what would be the first death of the Ridgecrest earthquake after the discovery of a man stuck under a vehicle he was working on about 100 miles from epicenter of the earthquake.

On July 9, around 1 pm, Nye County MPs were sent to the Becky Lane and East Forth Church Hill Road areas in Pahrump for a man to be under a vehicle.

Upon their arrival, the deputies found a 56-year-old deceased man, pinned under this vehicle.

The investigation revealed that the male was last seen alive at a local gas station on Wednesday, July 3, 2019.

The vehicle under which the male was stuck was safely lifted and, based on the position of the body and tools found on the scene, he appeared to be working on the vehicle at the time of his death.

"Based on the timing and preliminary circumstances at the scene, the Nye County Sheriff's investigation reveals that this death could result from the vehicle's fall taken on July 4 during the earthquake," said the sheriff's sergeant from Nye County. Adam Tippetts at a video press release.

On July 4, at around 10:30 am, a 6.4-hour epicenter struck near Ridgecrest, in the state of California, and its effects were felt in Pahrump.

A second earthquake was felt in Pahrump on Friday, July 5th, when an epicenter of Type 7.1 earthquake struck near Ridgecrest.

The identity of the man is not disclosed pending the notification of the next of kin.
