A Tennessee man is accused of attacking a couple wearing "Make America Great Again" caps at a Sam's Club store, officials said.

Police said James Phillips, 57, donned a veteran hat Saturday in Bowling Green, Kentucky, after being involved in a passionate exchange with MAGA hats from other customers.

The police report said Phillips confessed to deporting a couple to the wholesale store because of the red baseball caps, the WKNY television channel reported.

The other client, identified as Terry Pierce, then confronted Phillips, who had brandished a gun, authorities said.

"[He] He stuck it to my face, backed me up and said: "It's a good day for you to die," said Pierce at the news channel. WBKO information.

Phillips would have left the store, but the couple followed him to the parking lot, where their quarrel continued, officials said.

Police said witnesses corroborated Pierce's claims that Phillips had shot a gun at him.

Phillips was arrested on a first degree charge and placed in reserve at the Warren County Regional Jail.
