In an interview Sunday, Kaden Laga told the KUTV newspaper in Salt Lake City that he thought he would survive whatever happened.

Authorities claim that the 25-year-old Orem man was riding in the Bitterroot-Selway desert on August 11 when his horse fell lame.

Laga was supposed to meet his family at a trail but never showed up.

Search and rescue personnel conducted ground and air searches.

Laga says that he's lost the first day and that his cell phone was not working. He told KECI-TV that he had eaten locusts and even an ant to survive.

He was found Friday after wandering in a research camp.
