A man working on a roof in a suburb of Tampa, Florida, was shot dead Wednesday after another construction worker accidentally shot his gun while he was coming out of a truck, said officials.

Major Frank Losat spoke to the press about a bullet incident that killed a roof worker in Hillsborough County, Florida on May 9, 2019.WFLA

A 44-year-old man was found in critical condition by the authorities on a roof in Riverview, said Major Frank Losat at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. He was dropped from the roof by firefighters and drove to a local hospital where he died later.

The authorities did not reveal the name of the victim or the shooter.

The man who fired the weapon, described as a longtime friend of the victim, said Losat.

"The person who pulled the shot was coming out of his truck, she slipped on a construction debris at this point," said Losat. "He was making the transition between the barrel of his belt and his pocket and, at some point, the pistol was fired inadvertently."

Losat said the shooter cooperated fully with the authorities. The sheriff's department is still investigating and can not say if it will file a complaint.
