PRAGUE – A court in the Czech Republic sentenced two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova to his home and sentenced him to eight years in prison.

The Brno Regional Court ruled Tuesday that Radim Zondra inflicted serious bodily harm on Kvitova in December 2016, when he assaulted her in her Prostejov apartment.

The public prosecutor took 12 years in prison for Zondra, who pleaded not guilty.

Zondra can appeal.

Kvitova underwent surgery for left hand injuries. It took him more than five months to recover.

Kvitova, who reached the final of the Australian Open in January, is ranked # 2 in career.

She is at the Miami Open this week and will play a quarterfinal match on Tuesday.
