A Massachusetts beer writer writes the last column to give himself a "chance to live"

A Massachusetts beer writer, who wrote the column "Beer Nut" for more than 12 years, decided to finish it Wednesday to give himself a "chance to live".

Norman Miller said that he was finishing the column because of the damage done to his body. He wrote in his latest column on Framingham's Metro West Daily News. The city is about 25 miles west of Boston.

"It's not a hyperbole, it's the truth, my lifestyle is killing me, I'm middle-aged and obese," Miller wrote. "I have to make changes so that I can see 45, not to mention 50 or more."

"The beer has become more than a drink that I appreciate, it's now part of my character, I do not just write the Beer Nut column, I'm the Beer Nut," he said. -he writes. "But if I want to live, I can not be the Beer Nut anymore, and to be honest, it sucks."

Miller says that he sits several evenings a week and could have five or six beers per sitting.

"Beer gives me more calories than food I drink a few days a week," he writes.

He said that obesity was catching up with him as he grew older and that weight had lasted forever.

He had to go to emergency twice for stomach problems, saying that he was not ready to say goodbye to the many people who are dear to his heart in his life .

"I want to live to be there for them," he said.

Social media supporters have left comments of encouragement to the writer.

"Norm is more important to the world than BeerNut", @JohnVaudo wrote on Twitter.

Miller plans to continue his usual work on crime, which has been his main beating for the local newspaper, the Boston Globe reported. He said that he also enjoyed that, according to the report.
