A massive blackout paralyzes the city of New York

On Saturday night, social media talked about what appeared to be a massive blackout in New York, between Manhattan and LaGuardia Airport, in Queens.

Flights were delayed and terminals closed in the city's second airport. Meanwhile, the subway would have been frozen because of the current and lights cut at dusk in The Big Apple.

The power outage marks 42 years from day to day since the famous power outage of 1977, which left millions of people without electricity in New York for nearly 48 hours.

ComEd, a New York-based energy company, has not announced the cause of the outage or when residents and travelers can expect electricity to return to normal.

Municipal authorities have received dozens of reports of people stranded in elevators.

This is a story in development and will be updated as information becomes available.
