A one-year-old boy died Tuesday evening after being mutilated by his family’s dog while home alone with his brothers, police said.
Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of East 17th Street in the Flatbush neighborhood at around 10:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call regarding a child who was attacked by a dog, a police department spokesperson said. from New York. News week.
Police arrived at the scene and found the 19-month-old boy “bleeding profusely” after sustaining bites to his neck and shoulder. He was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The dog was confined to a room in the residence when police arrived at the scene, the NYPD spokesperson said.
Staff from the Emergency Services Unit responded to the scene and took custody of the dog, which was brought to Animal Care and Control, the spokesperson added.
Police said the identity of the deceased child had not yet been released.
The child’s father left the boy with his brothers, aged 9 and 11, in the family apartment on the ground floor as he drove to work on Tuesday evening, the New York Daily News reported. The child’s mother was also at work, according to PIX11.
The boy’s siblings reportedly ran outside for help after the dog attacked him. A passerby stopped and pulled the boy out of the apartment, according to the Daily news.
An investigation is underway and the parents could face charges.
It was not immediately clear what triggered the attack. But police sources told PIX11 that one of the boy’s brothers told officers he had been attacked by the Rottweiler in the past and showed them a scar on his leg.
