A meeting of local government officials from across California dissolved Saturday in at least seven people involved in the violence, according to the Los Angeles Times.

While law enforcement could not immediately determine who had engaged the fight, Commerce, California, Mayor John Soria, said in a written statement, supported by several witnesses, that the fight involved members of the municipal council of commerce as well as other public officials.

Other participants in the fight included political consultants, government salespeople and elected officials from the Los Angeles area, some of whom were trying to break the fight.

Soria said in his statement that he had been informed that advisers Leonard Mendoza and Ivan Altamirano were seeing their conversation "intensify", leading him to attempt to "defuse any potential conflict" after which he had seen Mendoza "seemingly unconscious" on the floor and Altamirano standing and taking care of an obvious wound in his face.

Mendoza told The Times that Altamirano had interrupted a conversation he had had, prompting Altamirano to take a step back. "I guess he did not like that, it got heated and it was noisy," Mendoza told the newspaper. Mendoza said that shortly after the argument, he felt a blow from behind and woke up at the hospital. He said that he did not know who had hit him.

"I clearly want to condemn the violent behavior of the individuals who initiated these assaults," said Soria, who added that he was considering laying charges and filing a police report. "Once additional information is available, I intend to ask my colleagues on the council to take the measures that are required of the people representing the city of commerce." who were involved in the incident. "

The city's Twitter account confirmed the incident and said there was no other comment because it occurred outside the jurisdiction of the city.
