Over the past 20 years, I have had the pleasure and privilege of being a Columbus Blue Jacket. In 1999, I joined the team as a scout. In 2000, I began a career as a broadcaster for 19 years on radio and FOX Sports Ohio. And although my time here has been "as good as possible" and I have loved every minute, I have informed the club and the network that the current season will be the last. I decided to retire.
It's something I've been thinking about for a while and I feel like it's a good time. Most of you are aware the fight against cancer that I led In the last few years, and although I feel good, I want to continue to focus on my health and my family, spend more time with us in Florida and play more golf!
I have spent most of my adult life playing hockey and surrounding, and I will always be grateful to the many people I have met and to my longtime friends that I have made way of the road. I am truly blessed and fulfilled. Although the number of people I would like to thank is too high to list here, I would like to thank my broadcaster partners, George Matthews, Jeff Rimer and Brian Giesenschlag, the great collaborators of FOX Sports Ohio, 97.1 The Fan, CD 102.5 and all the coaches, players, general managers and great people in the game with whom I have had the pleasure of working over the years. I would also like to thank my family and friends for their love, support and inspiration during this trip, as well as the best hockey fans, The 5th Line, many of whom have become good friends.
Finally, I would like to thank the McConnell family and all my Blue Jackets colleagues for allowing me to "live the dream" and be part of this wonderful organization over the past two decades. While I am looking forward to my retirement, I am also looking forward to continuing to be part of the CBJ family and helping to grow the sport I love in our community.
