A young girl from New Mexico whose disappearance reported Sunday triggered an AMBER alert was found dead Wednesday after three days of research.
Two sources that allegedly participated in the research efforts told the Rio Grande Sun that Renezmae Calzada, 5, was discovered in the Rio Grande, near Santa Clara Pueblo. Calzada disappeared while playing in front of his home in Española on Sunday around 9:45.
The research teams and the Alberquerque police were looking at the edge of the Rio Grande, in southern Española, when they found the 5-year-old son in the water, according to KQRE.
Although Calzada apparently disappeared Sunday morning, the Sun revealed that his mother, Victoria Maestas, had reported his disappearance at 19:39.
KRQE indicated that the house where Calzada was last seen alive belonged to his stepfather, Malcolm Torres. The Sun has received reports that Torres had telephoned Maestas, claiming that his daughter had disappeared that morning. Torres did not report the disappearance of Calzada because he thought that Maestas' family had recovered, wrote the dispatchers.

The Albuquerque News Journal that the sheriff's office of Rio Arriba County had called Torres – who had been arrested the same night that Calzada was missing – could be a suspect. However, a spokesman told the media on Tuesday that Torres was not a suspect.
KRQE said the arrest of Torres was linked to some CFA charges, although he was questioned about the disappearance of his daughter-in-law. Authorities said they interviewed nearly 200 people as part of the ongoing investigation.
Torres and Maestas would have a son together. Court records revealed that Maestas applied for custody early in August, resulting in a November 7 hearing on child support. The records also showed that a "post appointment appointment" of the Family Court Services was scheduled for Wednesday – the same day as Calzada's body. found, according to the News Journal.
The Sun reported that several search warrants had been filed in this case but that they were sealed, that is, they can only be consulted by the police or by court order. .
Although the authorities did not officially consider Calzada's death a homicide, they would consider her a suspect. An autopsy is waiting.
