A Missouri man is charged with criminal animal abuse after authorities said he killed and dismembered cats he found in online classifieds.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said Kaine Louzader, 20, was charged on Friday. Prosecutors say more charges are expected.
Court documents indicate that dead cats have appeared on or near Louzader Street near St. Peters since January. Police contacted Louzader after someone saw him throw a dead cat near his home.
St. Charles County Police Sergeant Jeff Ochs says that Louzader told the police that he would scour Craigslist ads for free cats, then bring them home and trampled or strangled them. Police said he had dismembered cats before throwing away their remains.
Louzader is being held with a $ 50,000 bail and could not be reached on Saturday for comment. No lawyer is in place in online court documents.
