MOORESVILLE, N.C. – A community mourns a dead hero after an Mooresville officer was shot dead during a routine checkup on Saturday night.

According to officials, Jordan Sheldon, a 32-year-old K-9 officer, was reportedly shot after taking a man shortly after 22 hours. on West Plaza Drive near Dealer Randy Marion.
According to the police, the police officer was reportedly taken to hospital after the shooting, but died as a result of his injuries.
Sheldon served with the Mooresville Police Department for six years. He was known and his death will be deeply felt in the community.
"He would be the first to go out and be a good cop. He would show his support. He came to spend time, chatting with us and having a good time. He used to come here to stop, look for gas and drinks. He had let his dog out, we talked for hours. It's just not fair, "said his friend Brian Vanderwestern.

Officers put themselves in danger every day. Last November, Sheldon answered a call about a suspicious pickup truck in a fire station. Police said he had shot a man who had driven the U-Haul pickup truck toward him. Sheldon was put on leave, which is usual in a shooting involving an officer, and he resumed his job after the close of the investigation.
"He did his job. He served his country, just our county. He did wonders here. It's a good guy, it's terrible that you did not expect that, "said Vanderwestern.
Investigators said that shortly after shooting Sheldon, the suspect went to an apartment complex located on Rinehardt Road about three kilometers away, where police officers found him dead. to a gunshot wound.
The suspect's name has not yet been released, but sources told Glenn Counts, of Channel 9, that he was 28 years old.
Officials said that part of West Plaza Drive had been shut in both directions while they were investigating the premises.
It's been 45 years since the city of Moorseville lost an officer so tragically.
In April 1974, Lt. Larry Barger was killed while he was trying to settle a dispute between a married couple on Highway 115. Police said the husband had snuck behind Barger and had shot him. Despite several major operations, the 36-year-old officer died three months later.
We still do not know what led to Saturday's deadly shootout.
Police should hold a press conference Sunday around 8:30 to answer the many unanswered questions.
