UPLAND, California (FOX 11) – A mother was arrested for allegedly throwing her year-old son from a two-story balcony on Tuesday on an apartment building in Upland. This same mother faces a homicide charge after the investigators found an insensitive baby inside the apartment, who later died in the hospital, announced the authorities.
Officers were called around 11 am in block 600 at North Wedgewood Avenue after receiving a call saying that a child was crying. When they arrived at the apartment, they found the boy aged one year in front of the building. Moments later, police said her mother, 24-year-old Tierra Rose Ortega, jumped off the second-floor balcony. She landed her head first, according to the Upland Police Department.
While the police were providing first aid to the mother and baby, additional police searched the apartment and spotted a 7-month-old girl who was not breathing and reacting inward, said the police. police.
All three were taken to hospital with unknown injuries. Police said the girl died later. The age of 1 year would be in a stable state.
Ortega was arrested and charged with homicide, attempted homicide and bodily injury to a child causing serious injury.
The detectives are still working to establish a motive for this tragic event, the police said.
