Houston police arrested a man who avoided paying nearly $ 5,500 toll on Houston highways with an illegal "registration pinball machine".

Preston Talbot, 27, of Houston, was arrested Thursday for avoiding a toll on the Sam Houston Expressway and charged with misdemeanor, the police said.

"He would activate this device by putting a fin in front of his license plate, so that the cameras of the toll stations could not read his plate," Herman Herman, Constable of Harris County, told KHOU-TV. .

The device that Talbot is accused of installing in his car worked at the touch of a button, reported the station.

Herman said Talbot owed $ 5,473 in unpaid tolls.

"Obviously, it was a stupid mistake," said Talbot's mother, Becki Morgan.
