A new Exynos chipset is in development and it is supposed to target Apple’s A14 bionic performance

While Samsung’s Exynos 2100 has improved significantly over the Exynos 990, the A14 Bionic continues to maintain the top spot when sheer performance is the name of the game. That’s not to say the Korean giant doesn’t. not working behind the scenes to make its future flagship SoC even better. In fact, a new rumor claims that the company wants to meet the performance target of the A14 Bionic, but it won’t be easy.

This is probably why Samsung is looking for AMD’s expertise to optimize the performance and efficiency of the next chipset. A rumor posted on Korean community website Clien claims that Samsung is developing an Exynos chipset to meet Apple’s A14 Bionic performance target.

This is an ambitious plan. It is also rumored that the performance target may be increased depending on the release schedule. Now assuming that Samsung plans to announce its new flagship Exynos SoC a bit later, it can continue to use AMD’s expertise to optimize the power consumption and thermals of this chipset. So far, tuning silicon has been problematic as Samsung might struggle to find a balance between performance and power consumption.

However, the initial offscreen GFXBench figures are very promising, even surpassing the figures obtained by the A14 Bionic. Below are the results if you want to see an early comparison.

As you can see, a first performance of this unnamed Exynos chipset shows that it easily beats the A14 Bionic. However, the results were most likely achieved with the SoC running at unrealistic power targets, so power reduction appears to be Samsung and AMD’s current target. Samsung could announce its new flagship Exynos chipset with an AMD GPU in Q1 or Q2 of 2021, according to one tipster.

We can’t wait to see this chip in action after further optimizations. Maybe, just maybe, in a few months we will have a real performance battle on our hands.
