A couple from Mount Vernon have been missing for almost two weeks after a mysterious disappearance during a holiday in the Dominican Republic, according to reports.

Family and friends are desperate for Orlando Moore and Portia Ravenelle, who left for Newark Liberty International Airport on March 23rd. They were supposed to come back on March 27 but never did, according to NBC New York.

The couple stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa, an all-inclusive resort located in the northeastern city of Samana, but did not leave the hotel. They never returned their rental car and never did it for their flight home. Their cell phones are off, according to the report.

"When that happens, we always think about the worst, but we hope for the best," Moore's grandmother Edith Walters told the press.

Ravenelle's family is in the Dominican Republic in search of the couple.

A representative of the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic was not aware of the case of missing persons.

Mount Vernon police spokesman acknowledged the investigation but could not provide details immediately.
