Emergency medical personnel said the dead man at the scene after a call to 911, Mason said.

Police said that the man appeared to be leaving the elevator on the first floor when it dipped and stuck between floors.

The building, known as the Manhattan Promenade, is listed online as a 23-storey luxury rental in the Kips Bay section of Manhattan.
