What was considered a joke eventually became a safety concern by encouraging the closure of a Pennsylvania elementary school.

Officials at the Neil Armstrong Elementary School in Scranton, Pennsylvania, were confused Thursday morning when they discovered that soap had been spilled across the building. Originally, the staff thought it was a joke, but when the school principal viewed security footage, he became worried.

An unidentified man was seen entering the school, undressing and spreading Murphy's soap on the gymnasium floor and other parts of the building, WNEP reported.

Scranton Police Chief Carl Graziano confirmed that the suspect was undressed and had gone through "at least part of the school without any clothes".

He added that school officials had also decided to close the day around 7 am, which would give a day off to more than 600 students.

"We are dealing with children, prevention is better than cure," he continued.

Police said that there was no forced entry. The WNEP reported Friday morning that police had arrested the suspect but would not disclose his identity pending an assessment of his mental health condition.
