Fredi was part of a massive grounding of 23 pilot whales in 2011 near Cudjoe Key, Florida.

A pilot whale that was rescued and found a home in a SeaWorld Park in the United States after being part of a vast strand in the Florida Keys eight years ago died.

SeaWorld Orlando officials announced on its blog that the whale known as Fredi died Saturday.

A spokesperson said in an email that Fredi had shown signs of loss of appetite and was following aggressive antimicrobial therapy.

SeaWorld's rescue team members spent two months in the Keys participating in rescue efforts with other relief organizations.

Fredi was found unable to be released into the wild due to her young age and she found a home at SeaWorld Orlando.
