JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – A charter plane charter chartered between Cuba and North Florida has been found in a river at the end of a runway.
A press release from the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville indicates that a Boeing 737 coming from the naval base at Guantanamo Bay (Cuba) crashed into the St. Johns River on Friday night.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced on Twitter that a marine unit had responded to the call. The aircraft was in shallow water and was not submerged. The officials say that everyone in the plane was alive and accounted for.
A photo posted by MPs shows a Miami Air International logo in the plane. The company did not immediately respond to messages from the Associated Press.
Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry posted on Twitter that teams were working to control jet fuel in the water.
The officials did not immediately explain what had caused the plane to leave the runway.
