A plane lands urgently at Billings airport

BILLING – A United Airlines plane was forced to return to Billings Logan International Airport after takeoff Wednesday morning due to a faulty deicing sensor.

A spokesman for Billings' operations center said the plane had left Billings around 11:15 and had noticed a "wing problem". Air traffic control redirected the plane to Billings, but it was circled for about half an hour to burn gasoline.

It was determined that a faulty defrost sensor was the problem.

Airport rescuers were waiting while the aircraft landed and was circulating in an area near the control tower. Forty-eight people, including the crew, were on board.

The plane was still on the tarmac in the middle of the afternoon.

This is a story in development.
