Three days after the shooting that killed eight people, including the armed man, and injured at least 25 people, the injured policeman in Odessa should be released from the hospital today.

According to the Odessa Police Department, "Corporal James Santana is getting better and should be released later in the day. The Odessa Police Department wishes to thank the public for its support and extends its condolences to all the other victims affected by this tragic event. "

Chronology of events

According to officials from the Odessa Police Department, the accused shooter, the 36-year-old gunner, Seth Aaron Ator of Odessa, was fired from his job Saturday morning at the Journey Oilfield Service. When he left, he called 911 to complain about the way he had been fired. The company also called 911 to complain about Ator's departure. When he hung up on the phone with 911, he left Journey Oilfield Service. He had left before the arrival of the police.

The authorities claim that he then called the FBI's national phone line. FBI officials said Ator was talking to them, without any threat. Just after his call to the FBI, he was stopped by a DPS soldier for not using his flashing light.

Officials at the OPD said that Ator had headed west on I-20, shooting innocent civilians en route. He entered the city limits of Odessa and killed more civilians. He later found himself in the 3 800 islet of North Adams and North Dixie where he stole the car and killed him. He abandoned his gold car.

He took the van and continued his shooting, killing even more, until the police, the DPS and other agencies get in touch with him at Cinergy Cinema in Odessa. Shots were fired between Ator and the officers on the spot. A police vehicle hit the mail truck and Ator was killed in a shootout.
