UPDATE 1:00 AM MARCH 16: Police announced that a Las Vegas police officer and a robbery suspect had been shot and wounded tonight during an incident at the Bellagio hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip. .

According to Captain Nichole Splinter, a person with a gun approached a casino cage located in the poker area around 9:45 pm. The alleged thief then fled through the casino's north doors and attempted to rob someone who had just arrived at the casino hotel.

The suspect did not succeed and was confronted by four police officers. The suspect shot the police, hitting one of them at chest level. Another policeman fired back, hitting the suspect.

The police officer and the suspect were transported to a local hospital. The officer, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was treated and released. The suspect is in critical condition.
