Officials said that a dike along the Arkansas River had been breached, causing a sudden flooding alert and evacuation from a rural area of western Ontario. # 39; Arkansas.
The dyke pierced Friday morning at Dardanelle, about 95 km northwest of Little Rock. Yell County officials had anticipated the breach and urged residents of neighboring Holla Bend to evacuate on Thursday.
Emergency management officials said the teams were going door-to-door to recommend the evacuation of some 160 homes.
Data from the national meteorological service revealed a drop in the water level at Dardanelle, probably because of the breach. A sudden flood warning was issued Friday in the area and forecasters said residents should be prepared for the flood waters.
The dike broke through due to continuous flooding along the Arkansas River, which began in Oklahoma.
