Dan Smith built a fence around the car and said the company had to pay for the car.

Smith, who said he manages the duplex, can recognize the humor some people find in the steps he has taken to prove his point.

For two weeks, the fence has been locked in the car2go vehicle.

Smith said it was put in place after the company failed to come up with a plan in time to have the car removed after someone parked there.

"I had no idea of responsibility, but I just wanted to avoid it," Smith said.

Smith is now asking Share Now, the car2go operating company, to pay a series of fees to get the car back.

He said he was frustrated with how the company handled the situation and wanted changes to be made to prevent such events from happening again.

"My main goal is to change the system," Smith said.

According to the city's website, carpool vehicles can park in paid parking areas, limited parking areas or restricted parking areas.

Share Now said it made several attempts to recover the car.

In a statement, the company said: "Despite his desire to have the vehicle removed, a person claiming to be the owner of the property obstructs his removal and requests payment. We do not tolerate our vehicles being held for ransom. It is now a legal matter.

Smith, however, said, "I think they are the author and play the victim."

Smith said he was willing to leave the car blocked until his fees were paid or the police came to tell him that he had done something illegal.

"You hate the disadvantages of this kind, but you have to respect the following principle:" Come on, big companies, you have to respect people, "he said.
