The deputy of a sheriff from Orange County who collapsed and lost consciousness died six years ago during tests of the SWAT team, officials said.

Carlos Cammon, 35, died Friday night after succumbing to his injuries. Sheriff Don Barnes announced Saturday on his Twitter page.

He collapsed during the test session on July 18, 2013 and has never regained consciousness, the sheriff said.

Cammon has distinguished himself during his six years in the department, he said.

"In 2010, MP Cammon received the Medal of Courage after he and three other MPs on leave overpowered a man with a knife, assaulting a woman at a restaurant in Orange," Barnes said. "The family of our department joins the Cammon family to mourn the loss of this brave young man."
