A shootout at the birthday party of a Maryland child makes 7 adults injured, police say

At least 7 adults were injured when someone opened fire on a toddler's birthday party in Maryland, police said.

The shootout occurred Saturday night near the Camp Springs and Morningside areas of Prince George County, officials said. About 12 people attended the 2-year-old's birthday party when someone started firing.

Three of the seven people who were shot – all aged 18 to 20 – remained seriously injured, but Prince George County Police Chief Henry Stawinski said they should all survive.

The suspect remained on the run at 7:30 am Sunday morning. Further information on the incident was not yet clear, but Stawinski said that a fight could have taken place before the suspect began shooting.
