The Massachusetts State Police announced the death of two people after the fall of a plane and fire at the Mansfield Municipal Airport.

Police said the accident occurred shortly after 12:30. Saturday. The state police and the Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an investigation and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the cause.

An NTSB spokesman said that an investigator would be on the site early Sunday to examine the aircraft and document the scene.

The FAA stated that the plane was a Cessna 172.

The airport is about 45 miles south of Boston.

The NTSB aviation accident database shows two non-fatal incidents that occurred at the airport in 2011, involving an experimental aircraft that deviated from the runway, and in 2004, a student pilot piloted the plane up to a closed runway.
