The incident of the California Sheriff who launched a costly manhunt throughout the city for the sniper who shot him in the parking lot of his own station constituted the entire incident, Saturday announced the police.

Angel Reinosa, who is still a trainee at the Lancaster Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, said he had been shot in the shoulder of his bullet-proof vest while he was out. he was heading to his car on Wednesday. He radioed dramatically that he had been shot by a person in the building next to the parking lot.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department immediately mobilized a large-scale operation to search for the suspect, even flying in a helicopter with a police sniper patrolling the air.

All was wrong, said Captain Kent Wegener, L.A. County homicide, at a press conference.

Reinosa, 21, met on Saturday with investigators from the sheriff's department and confessed.

Wegener said the deputy minister did not provide any reason to make the false statement.

"Much of his statement was selfish, did not make much sense," said the captain.

The Attorney General's office will be responsible for determining the charges against Reinosa, but Wagner said that they "could start with a false emergency report".

Reinosa will also be fired from the department, said Sheriff Robin Limon, assistant to the county sheriff's department. Limon said the department was "incredibly disappointed" and that a criminal investigation had been opened.

"There were several things that were curious," said Wegener. "There was no ballistic evidence on the parking lot, no bullet was recovered … There were many things that did not add up."

The authorities also examined the surveillance footage and spoke to witnesses, which does not corroborate Reinosa's story.

Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris held an emotional press conference on the day of the shooting. He said: "The only reason a MP is alive is because he was wearing his jacket."
