A spill of coffee in the cockpit forces hundreds of people on board a jet aircraft to make an emergency landing

LONDON, Sept. 12 – A commercial flight with 326 people on board was forced to make an emergency landing after hot coffee accidentally spilled onto the cockpit control panel overhead. Atlantic Ocean, according to a report released Thursday.

The Airbus A330-243 from Frankfurt to Cancun (Mexico) landed in Shannon, Ireland.

As the hot liquid emitted a strong burning smell and smoke rose from the panel, the captain decided to turn away, said the Air Accident Investigation Directorate (AAIB) report.

The incident occurred after a pilot laid his unattached cup of coffee on a tray table rather than in a cup holder, the report said.

The incident that occurred in February did not hurt anyone.

The AAIB did not identify the airline but stated that it had since modified its procedures to ensure that cup lids are provided for flights made on all routes. and that the crews are reminded that they must use them.
